The Craker Family Machine Building

7. The Craker Family Machine Building

Here you will discover some of the largest pieces of history in our collection, including a clover huller, a 1918 threshing machine, a grain binder, a wood corn shredder and others.  Outside we have a saw mill rig, and other pieces of farm machinery including a pretty good-sized stump puller!

Featured here: a 1918 wood threshing machine. Imagine a steam engine with a long belt; a couple of wagons with farmers pitching bundles of grain into the machine; a man up on top operating the blower and building the straw stack; a man over on the side with a lever to direct the grain into one bag and then the other for hours on end.

This red machine, a corn shredder, was used to snap out the ears of corn from the stalks and remove the husks. Prior to this machine's advent, farmers and their help would remove ears of corn from the stalks by hand.

The building was rededicated to the Craker Family machinery building on Sunday September 24th, 2023 in honor of their support over the years.
